MeshShot support and troubleshooting

Most problems have a short answer. Start here, and if it isn't below, email us. New to MeshShot? Start with what it does.

Getting started

What file formats can I import?

GLB and glTF (recommended, materials and textures travel inside the file, see the Khronos glTF overview), OBJ, and FBX.

For OBJ, select the .obj, its .mtl and the texture images together in the file picker, or drag them all in at once. An OBJ on its own has no colour information at all and will load flat grey, that's the format, not a bug.

Is there a file size limit?

No upload limit, because there's no upload. Your browser reads the file from disk directly. The practical ceiling is your machine's memory, models in the hundreds of megabytes generally work on a modern computer.

My model is lying on its side.

FBX and OBJ don't agree on which axis points up, and every exporter picks differently. Open Object → Transform and nudge an axis by ±90° until it stands up.

My model imported with a backdrop or a ground plane.

Open Object → Parts and untick it. Hidden parts are removed from framing and from every export, not just hidden in the preview.

Which browsers work?

Chrome, Edge, Brave and other Chromium browsers give the full feature set. Firefox and Safari work for the editor and stills; video export falls back to a slower real-time recording because they don't yet support the WebCodecs API. A desktop or laptop is strongly recommended, this is a precision editor, not a phone app.

Licence and billing

How do I activate my licence?

Don't have a licence yet? See pricing. Otherwise: open the app, click the Sign in button in the top bar, paste your key under Licence and press Activate. The PRO badge appears and video, GIF and code export unlock immediately.

"That licence key isn't valid for this product."

Three usual causes: a stray space when pasting, a key from a different product, or an expired free-trial code. Copy the key straight from your Gumroad receipt, it looks like XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX. Still stuck? Email us with the email address you bought with and we'll sort it out.

My licence disappeared after I cleared my browser data.

The licence is stored in your browser, so clearing site data removes it. Just paste the key in again, there's no limit on re-activating on your own machines.

I bought the Figma plugin. Does it work here?

Yes. It's the same Gumroad product, so one key covers both.

Private browsing keeps forgetting my licence.

Private windows discard site data when you close them, so the key doesn't persist. Use a normal window, or expect to re-paste the key each session.

Troubleshooting exports

"No encoder for 4096×4096 in this browser."

H.264 has hard frame-size limits that vary by machine, and a square 4K frame exceeds them on most. Either lower the resolution, or switch the format to WebM, which usually goes higher. MeshShot checks before you render rather than failing halfway through.

My video is huge and loads slowly on my site.

Check the estimated size shown under the Video settings before rendering. For a web page or a Figma video fill, 1080px at 30fps with the bitrate around 30% is usually plenty, often under 1 MB where the maximum settings would produce 25 MB.

My video came out with a black background.

No video format carries transparency. If your background is set to Transparent, video renders it black. Choose a colour or gradient in Scene for video, or use GIF or PNG, which do support real transparency.

My GIF has hard, jagged edges.

That's the GIF format: transparency is one bit, so a pixel is either fully there or fully gone, there's no partial blending. Soft shadows are dithered to compensate. If you need genuinely soft edges, export a PNG sequence or a video on a solid background.

Rendering feels slow.

Video rendering is done frame by frame on your GPU, typically faster than real time. GIF is slower because each frame is quantised to 256 colours separately. Long timelines at high resolution take a while, drop the resolution while you're iterating and raise it for the final render.

Shadows aren't showing.

Switch on Object → Shadow → Contact shadow. If it's on and you still see nothing, raise Light height (at a low angle the shadow can fall outside the frame), or increase Ground size.

Reporting a bug

Please include: your browser and version, the model format, what you clicked, and what happened instead. A screenshot of the panel helps enormously.

We can't see your files. MeshShot has no server and never receives your models, so we can't look at your project to diagnose something. If a specific model misbehaves, attaching it to your email is the fastest route, but only send files you're free to share.
