Turn an OBJ model into a video

Select the .obj, its .mtl and the texture images together and drop them into MeshShot. Pick a camera move and export. Without the .mtl the model arrives grey.

  • Free to start

How to do it

  1. Open the MeshShot web app.
  2. Select the .obj, the .mtl and all texture images together, then drop them in as one selection.
  3. Choose lighting and a camera sequence.
  4. Export video (Pro) or a PNG sequence (free).

An OBJ file only stores geometry. Colours and textures live in the separate MTL file and the image files it references. If you drop the OBJ alone, the loader has nothing to apply and the model appears untextured.

Good to know: If you can choose the format when exporting from your 3D tool, GLB keeps the model and textures in a single file and avoids this problem.

Questions

Why is my OBJ grey?

The MTL file and textures were not included. Select all of them together when importing.

Can I use FBX instead?

Yes. MeshShot imports GLB, glTF, OBJ and FBX.
