What is a PBR material?

PBR stands for physically based rendering. A PBR material describes how a surface reacts to light using values like base colour, roughness and metalness, so it looks believable in any lighting.

How to do it

  1. Open the MeshShot web app.
  2. Import a GLB. PBR materials are stored inside it.
  3. Change the lighting and the finish and watch how the surface responds.

Roughness controls how sharp reflections are, and metalness switches a surface between plastic-like and metal-like. glTF and GLB files are built around this model, which is why they look consistent across tools.

Good to know: If a model looks flat, the cause is often weak lighting rather than the material.

Questions

Does OBJ support PBR?

Not natively. GLB is the better choice.

Do I need to know this to use MeshShot?

No. Presets handle it.
