How to export a video from Figma
Figma itself has no video export. A prototype can be screen-recorded, and a plugin can render a real video and place it on the canvas. Which you want depends on whether you are showing a UI flow or an object.

How to do it
- For a UI flow, present the prototype and screen-record it. The result is a recording of your screen, so quality depends on your display.
- For a 3D object, logo or headline, run the MeshShot plugin, build the motion on its timeline and export an MP4, WebM or GIF at a fixed resolution.
- For a looping animation on the canvas, export a frame sequence and let the plugin wire the frames into a prototype that plays in Figma itself.
- Drop the finished file wherever it is going, or place it straight on the canvas.
The reason Figma has no video export is that its document model has no timeline. Smart animate interpolates between two frames at view time rather than storing motion, so there is nothing for an exporter to walk through frame by frame. A plugin sidesteps this by owning its own timeline and rendering each frame itself, which is why plugin video comes out at a chosen resolution and frame rate instead of whatever your screen happened to be.
Good to know: A screen recording captures your display, so a retina screen gives a large file and a scaled one gives a soft result. A rendered export is deterministic: the same settings produce the same file on any machine.
Questions
Can Figma export MP4 natively?
No. Export is limited to PNG, JPG, SVG and PDF.
Can I put a video on the Figma canvas?
Yes, video fills are supported on paid Figma plans. The plugin can place one for you.
What about a GIF?
GIF works on any plan and keeps real transparency. See adding a GIF to Figma.
