How to make a GIF in Figma

Figma does not export animated GIFs on its own. Record a prototype and convert the recording, or use a plugin. For 3D motion, MeshShot can turn a 3D model, logo or text into a GIF.

Ways to get a GIF

  1. Record the prototype: play your prototype, screen-record it and convert the clip to a GIF with a converter.
  2. 3D motion: use the MeshShot plugin to make a looping GIF of a model, logo or text and place it on the canvas (GIF output is Pro).
  3. A plugin: several community plugins export frames to GIF.

Which route is best depends on what is moving. For screens and interactions, screen recording is quick. For an object turning in 3D, rendering it directly gives a cleaner loop.

Good to know: GIFs are limited to 256 colours. For smooth gradients, MP4 or WebM looks better.
