How to add a GIF to Figma

Drag the GIF onto your canvas or paste it into a frame. It appears as a still image while you design and plays when you view the prototype in Present mode.

  • Runs in your browser
  • Files never uploaded
  • Free to start

How to do it

  1. Drag the .gif onto your Figma canvas, or copy and paste it into a frame.
  2. Resize it like any image layer.
  3. Press the Present button to open the prototype and see it play.

Because the canvas shows only the first frame, you will not see the motion while editing. Always check in Present mode before sharing with a client.

Good to know: Large GIFs can make a file slow. Keep them small, for example 1:1 at moderate resolution.
