Are GLB files safe to open?
Generally yes. A GLB holds geometry, textures and animation data, not a program, so it does not run code the way an .exe does. As with any download, take files from sources you trust.
- Runs in your browser
- Files never uploaded
- Free to start
How to stay safe
- Download models from sites you trust, and check the file really ends in
.glb. - Be wary of a download that arrives zipped with an
.exeor script file next to the model. - Keep your 3D tools and browser up to date, because the risk, when there is one, comes from bugs in the software that reads the file.
When you open a model in MeshShot, the file is read from your disk and rendered on your own GPU in the browser. It is not uploaded to a server.
Good to know: No file format is risk-free in every case, so use normal caution with files from unknown senders.
Questions
Can a GLB contain a virus?
The format itself has no way to run programs, but a malicious file could target a bug in the program opening it.
Does MeshShot upload my model?
No. It stays on your computer.
