GLB vs USDZ

USDZ is built around Apple AR, such as viewing a product in your room from an iPhone. GLB is the open format that works across the web and most other platforms. Many stores provide both.

  • Files never uploaded
  • Free to start

How they differ

  1. Owner: USDZ comes from Apple and Pixar USD. GLB is an open Khronos standard.
  2. Where it works: USDZ in Apple AR Quick Look. GLB in browsers, Android and most 3D tools.
  3. Typical use: offer a GLB on the web and a USDZ for iPhone AR.

You do not usually have to choose. If you are building a product viewer, publish GLB for the web and add a USDZ for Apple devices if AR matters to you.

Good to know: MeshShot imports GLB, glTF, OBJ and FBX, and exports GLB, STL and OBJ with Pro. It does not export USDZ.
